Zeta Amicae of Durham

As early as 1940, graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had begun to realize the importance of the prestige, good will, and cooperation of women who for various reasons were not members of any Greek-lettered organization. In 1948, with the recommendation of the Grand President, Lullelia Harrison, Zeta graduate chapters were allowed to organize auxiliaries that would be known as Zeta Amicae. Amicae is the Latin word for friend. Zeta Amicae render valuable services to the sorority and their respective communities. These auxiliaries are located in areas where there are active graduate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Zeta Amicae of Durham is an auxiliary of the Eta Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Zeta Amicae of Durham was chartered in 1992 by 10 women or friends of Zeta. In 1996 the auxiliary was dissolved. On July 21, 2003 the auxiliary was reactivated by 6 women.

Some of the projects the Amicae have done are: Adopted 4 families for the holidays, collected cell phones for emergency use to be used by the less fortunate and they have participated in election activities including voter registration.
